Thrift Bakery recorded nearly 20 tracks in North Carolina or Washington, D.C, at its height as a performance unit in the late-1980s. Many of the songs are motivated by the dance floor, starting with soca, world beat and afrobeat grooves, with contemporary rap layered on top. Chuck Bon Jovi's guitar frequently drives the sound. Sixteen of the songs will be released in 2026. Guitarists from Winston-Salem, N.C., also appear, namely Sally Spring on “Blame It On Elvis” and Chuck Dale Smith on “Forbidden Fruit.”
We had some concerns about how recordings from that era could meet current digital quality. Bob Hair worked many hours to remaster the tracks. The song below, “Shells,” was among the highest audio quality and came out in 2020 as the B side of the single “Sending All My Love to You.” Visit https://open.spotify.com/album/0oirKuWeE3l0b7KVe4m3ik
Visit again as more tracks from "Tender Moments" are released. We promise the same mix of twisted romance pop and James Brown-inspired funk that you rely on Thrift Bakery to provide.
